Original handmade surreal mixed-media collage
What happens when beauty is no longer enough?
Magic Touch explores the aggressive pressure of beauty standards imposed on women and the constant expectation to transform, correct and improve their appearance, even when there is nothing that needs fixing.
A beautiful woman’s portrait is physically divided into two sections, creating a disturbing interruption between her face and the back of her head. The delicate black-and-white photographs contrast with the vivid colours of an aggressive mouth holding a syringe between its teeth.
This unsettling presence represents the violence of unrealistic beauty ideals, invading the woman’s image and demanding transformation.
Red threads stretch across the opening, resembling surgical sutures. They attempt to reconnect what has been separated, yet instead of concealing the damage, they make the fracture even more visible. Small red marks scattered across the textured polystyrene surface suggest wounds, traces of intervention and the physical consequences of pursuing perfection.
The title Magic Touch carries a deliberate irony. What is presented as a magical promise of enhancement becomes something invasive, exposing the contradiction between the desire for beauty and the pressure to conform.
Rather than condemning individual choices about cosmetic procedures, the artwork questions the social expectations that can make women feel that their natural appearance is never quite enough.
At its heart, Magic Touch is about the pressure to transform what never needed fixing.
Every image has been individually selected, hand-cut and assembled into an original, one-of-a-kind surreal artwork.
